MANJIMUP

15000

The name Manjimup 15000 comes from the original prize purse, which at the time made it the richest motocross event ever held in Australia. Britain’s Roger Harvey claimed victory at the inaugural race.

Throughout the 1980s and into the new century, the Manjimup 15000 became a popular Foundation Day long-weekend tradition, attracting top international riders and thousands of spectators to Cosy Creek. The public holiday played a key role in boosting attendance, benefiting both the event and the local community who supported it.

With early leadership from Trevor Holm, the event grew steadily over the next three decades, earning a reputation as Australia’s premier one-day outdoor motocross competition.

From its first running in 1980 to the present, the club has awarded more than $600,000 in prize money, reaching a peak of $33,000 in 1988.

In 2009, Willie Thomson, director of Dirt High Promotions, approached the club about taking over management of the event, as its increasing scale had become difficult for the club to handle. This challenge had already led to cancellations in 2006 and 2008 due to a shortage of volunteers.

Since assuming control of the Manjimup 15000 in 2009, Dirt High Promotions has helped the event continue to grow and thrive.
